Honoring Red Ribbon Week

Honoring Red Ribbon Week

This week at Salazar we are honoring Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is a time in which we remember the work and sacrifice of Kiki Camarena, the DEA agent who was tortured and killed in Mexico, and during which we encourage students to be drug free.

Raising Awareness

We raise awareness through our spirit theme days. On Monday, we celebrated "Don't Sleep on Spirit Week" by wearing pajamas. Yesterday, we "teamed up against drugs" by wearing jerseys, and today we are wearing sneakers to tell students, "Don't let drugs sneak up on you." These themed days are times to celebrate and have fun, but also to remind students to be conscious of the harms drugs bring and to find ways to avoid their use.

Our advisories are also decorating doors in honor of Red Ribbon Week, and our leader, Dr. Collins, tells us a little more about the history and spirit of Red Ribbon Week every afternoon during the announcements.
